The easiest way to make biofuels is to use valuable crop like corn, soya, wheat or grapeseed to distill ethanol based fuel. The price for corn in south american countries has already significantly risen in consequence of the increasing demand of crops for the production of biofuels. It's certainly important to know that the fuel needed to drive a car for 500 kilometers needs 50 (a small car) to 200 (a SUV) kilograms of corn to produce. 200 kg of corn are enough to feed a person for one whole year.
Biofuels made from algie (algal biofuel) produce 30x the energy per acre of other biofuels. Biodiesel can be made from plant, vegetable, and animal oils, new or used. Many "home brewers" collect used vegetable oil from fryers in restaurants to render into biodiesel.
It should be noted that the downside to biofuels can be the use of plants being raised for fuel production. Crops are becoming more valuable as a fuel source than as a food commodity. This can increase the burden on the global food crisis. The growth of more soy in countries like Brazil is contributing to the deforestation of the rain forest.
