Green Party of Canada
The Green Party of Canada is a national political organization which typically runs candidates in virtually every constituency across Canada during a federal election.
The leader of the Party since August 2006 is Elizabeth May O.C. She has been active in the environmental movement since 1970 according to her biography on the party website.
On May 2, 2011 the Green Party of Canada made history. Elizabeth May was elected MP (Member of Parliament) for the riding of riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands in the province of British Columbia. This was historic as it was the first time a member of a Green Party was elected in a federal election in a "first past the post" system of goverment in North America.
