oil filter made out of 100% recycled oil filters
VotawAdded by Votaw

An oil filter is made of three basic items:

  1. paper,
  2. steel and
  3. plastic.

All of these items are recyclable when sent to the proper recycling outlet. Sometimes used oil filters are accepted in local recycling programs, or the collection facilities where you take your used motor oil may also accept used oil filters for recycling.

recycling one ton of filters could save 1,700 pounds of steel, 30 gallons of used oil, 10 cubic yards of landfill space, 2,061/10,000 tons of co2, 45/4 tons of green house gases, enough oil to run the average car for 450 miles or circle the globe almost 33,600 times, a 900,000 cubic meter lake from being polluted, enough steel to build 17/200,000 Stadiums the size of Atlanta’s Olympic Stadium, 27/2 tons of solid waste, 2,061/100 gallons of gasoline, 120 acres of soil from being polluted, almost $4,556.25.

(1,700 pounds of steel could save 17/16 tons of iron ore, 850 pounds of coal, 34 Pounds of limestone, a 1,581/8 cubic meter lake (17/50 of water), and enough energy to light a 60 watt light bulb for 1,105/219 years, a CFL for 169,167/5,840,000 years, 5,457/10 KWh of energy (629/1,000 of energy), 323/5 gallons of oil, 9,265,000 Btu's of energy (629/1,000 of energy), 17/5 Cubic yards of landfill space, reduce air pollution by 731/1,000, water pollution by 323/500, enough oil to run the average car for 969 miles or circle the globe almost 72,352 times, a 1,938,000 cubic meter lake from being polluted, 221,901/500,000 tons of co2, 969/40 tons of green house gases, 5457/80,000,000 tons of mercury a year, 5,457/350 metric tons of toxic lead, 1,292/5 acres of soil from being polluted, $7,905.00 in water, $55.59 in energy (this totals to $7,960.59))
