The National Biodiesel Board states that biodiesel blends of 20% (B20) and below will work in any diesel engine without needing modifications, and that the blends will work just like petroleum diesel.

The NBB also recommends the following precautions:

  • Make sure to by B20 from a reputable source.
  • Buy fuel that has already been blended.
  • Do not buy from someone who makes fuel in their garage or backyard.
  • Stick to a regular maintenance schedule. Biodiesel is a cleaning agen and petroleum deposits may end up in the fuel filter. If your vehicle feels sluggish when accelerating, you may have a plugged filter and should check it immediately.
