John is a 'deep green' who has been involved in promoting sustainability since the late 1980s. This includes details of his kids entertainer persona, Professor Fiddlesticks, collecting logs for woodstoves and biodegradable waste from skips for composting, and lots of community activity.

Main interests are waste reduction/recycling especially composting, lowering carbon footprints, biodiversity especially invertebrates, transport especially cycling, poverty reduction, participation and volunteering.

John has a long history of being active in the green and social justice movements... from Reclaim The Streets and Local Agenda 21 in the 90s, to starting North Yorkshire Credit Union, York Rotters, and York Green Festival in the 'noughties', to involvement in York in Transition and working on a directory of Green Funerals more recently.
